Yellowstone’s waterfalls are gorgeous and rivers are flowing full. It is so good to be back! May in Yellowstone is the time for bison babies, returning birds, ducks/grebes/swans returning and migrating through, bears coming out of hibernation, and springtime flowers. Coming back feels like returning home. Come on along as we explore the rivers and waterfalls around the park.
Balanced Rock is a featured stop when driving in Arches National Park, and one of the few formations easily seen from the main park road. We are still quite a distance away, but come on along. You’ll be amazed as we get closer!
The high, rugged Sangre de Christo Mountains are the backdrop for Great Sand Dune National Park, 30-square miles of sand dunes reaching over 740 feet. They are the tallest dunes in North American with an amazingly diverse habitat. It is an ongoing story of wind, water, and sand. There are no designated trails on the dunes, you can walk anywhere you want–I dare you! Come along to visit the grand peaks of sand and granite!
Well, it has taken me a long time to get this to you, but I know you’ll enjoy seeing geology from the beginning of time in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. No kidding. So what took so long?
I took a four-day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park which I will share another day. The bad news is I’ve spent most of June recovering from altitude sickness and dehydration. I had taken precautions so was very surprised how hard it hit me. This getting old thing is for the birds too! Just can’t fight off ill effects as you can when younger. These high elevations are no joke, so have studied up on most effective preparation for next time, because you know there’ll be a next time my friend!
In the meantime, let’s visit the South Rim of Black Canyon National Park. I know you’ll enjoy this!
