This August Garden of the Gods has turned into a wonderland of yellow flowers even more so than usual. With all the rain this May and June and showers since then, not to mention many less 90+ degree days than the last few years, what beauty! Here we go . . .
For the last few years we have been hearing Cordilleran Flycatchers in the garden were we enjoy Friday-morning coffee after a hike in Garden of the Gods. Trouble is they are so small, SO fast, and rarely stay in one place for long, making picture taking tough. Suddenly a youngster seemed interested in people and we started to wonder, who’s watching who?
The last few days we’ve experienced arctic weather. Snow, below freezing temperatures overnight into the morning, single digits all day long. Brrrrr . . . OK, OK, I lived in Montana for seven years so should be fine with frigid. No, OVER IT, and enjoy the shorter winter season at this latitude too. One thing though? You can’t beat the beauty of ice- and snow-covered landscapes! Come on along as we drive the roads and visit the pull outs in Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs gorgeous city park.
Last Wednesday I woke up to clouds down to the ground, we call fog, and temps in the low 20s. Amazingly, it was like that all day which is unusual in Colorado Springs. There were occasional snow flurries, but it never actually snowed. At times I could see what looked like ice crystals floating in the clouds. Ice/snow also seemed to be forming on trees. By the next morning we had clouds/fog mostly along the horizons, bright sun, and magical landscapes due to the heavy coating of rime ice. Come see!!
