Short but Sweet–Quarry Pass Trail

We have walked in Red Rock Canyon Open Space before, but today we are exploring a short .2 mile connector trail called Quarry Pass Trail. We are heading down Red Rock Canyon Trail for the last mile of our 4-mile morning hike. Although overcast, it is not smoky today. The huge wildfires north near Rocky Mountain National Park (oh no!) have been inundating us with smoke when winds head south. We have a nice respite today, so let’s explore the connector trail I’ve never done before. We’ll have a new adventure together!

Off We Go!

Exploring Beautiful Red Rock Canyon

The wonderful thing about getting out for a hike at 6:40am is the golden morning light. It may make some red rocks appear gold, but that only adds to the beauty. Come along for a 3.5 mile hike in Red Rock Canyon Open Space where we will walk through canyons, along fins, and into the scrub oak and pine forest seeing the sights along the way.

Onward to Contemplation Trail . . . .

Let’s Hike Garden of the Gods–It Is About Time!

It has been quite a while since we hiked together, so it’s time to head out for a three-mile hike in Garden of the Gods. Arriving at 6:15am, we have golden light, trails you have never seen, and huge rocks, particularly red rocks, everywhere. Now I know what so many country songs mean when they talk of “red-dirt”! We’ll be brushing it off our shoes and if our shoes “breath”, we’ll be washing it out of our socks. Ready to head out? The Bretag Trail awaits!

Winter Wonderland–Colorado Springs Style

North entrance walkway

The forecast was for a few inches of snow Sunday night, but when I peeked outside about 8pm, huge snowflakes were falling and everything was covered. What would the morning bring?

Heavy, wet snow clinging to everything, not a breath of wind, 20 degree temperatures. This means a trip to Garden of the Gods. A beautiful winter wonderland–Colorado Springs style!
