Waterfall Jaunt in the Catskills and Adirondacks

Buttermilk Falls, Peekamoose Road, Sundown Wild Forest, Catskill Park

The Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in eastern New York State have many marvelous waterfalls along hikes of all lengths as well as roadside. Doing road trips over the last few years, here are a few falls you may enjoy that involved no more than 1/2 mile walk. If you love waterfalls as much as I do, take a look at New York State. Compared to the West, walking in the northeast feels like a cool, moist, moss-covered jacket that envelopes and beckons you to slow down, look around, and enjoy.

Diverse and Spectacular–The Flume Gorge Loop

New Hampshire’s White Mountains is a gorgeous area of New England. Here at Flume Gorge Loop in Franconia Notch State Park we’ll discover unique beauty over a 2-mile loop trail walk. The Loop Trail is one of the most visited in New Hampshire with crowds that don’t quit, but guess what? It is May and the young ones are still in school, the weather is a bit iffy, and we are pretty much alone in this spectacular and special treasure.

Exploring the Ellis River

We are in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest along the eastern edge of Mount Washington. There is so much to see and do, but today we will explore the Ellis River from Pinkham Notch to Jackson, NH. The Ellis River conveniently parallels NH-16, and we’ll head south to explore three different waterfalls. So grab your gear and let’s go.

This will be fun!

Ride~About: Snowcoach to Wonderland!

Here we are, 7:30am at Mammoth Hot Springs to catch our snowcoach to Wonderland, driving to Old Faithful for a two-night stay. This winter started with warm temperatures, little snow, yet overcast skies with little sun. Then came February! Lots of snow, temperatures from -30 degrees to slightly above zero, and no sun. Unlikely we will see sun today, but you never know. We are heading to Old Faithful via the long route. From Mammoth to Canyon, along Yellowstone Lake to West Thumb, and over Craig’s Pass arriving at Old Faithful about 4pm.
