Exploring Beautiful Red Rock Canyon

The wonderful thing about getting out for a hike at 6:40am is the golden morning light. It may make some red rocks appear gold, but that only adds to the beauty. Come along for a 3.5 mile hike in Red Rock Canyon Open Space where we will walk through canyons, along fins, and into the scrub oak and pine forest seeing the sights along the way.

Onward to Contemplation Trail . . . .

Winter Walk in Garden of the Gods

It is an overcast day in Colorado Springs which even in winter is unusual. It is sunny most every day. I know, you cannot stop feeling sorry for us 😉.  Today, though, it is snowing in the mountains yet Pikes Peak is visible, cloudy in the Springs, a nice day for a hike. Why? There is no wind, fewer people in this very popular park, and although we won’t have the lovely blue sky, we also don’t have the blazing sun washing out the colors. So onward to Palmer/Scotsman/Bretag trails and the Garden’s amazing rock formations.

Grab your jacket for our 40° day and let’s go!

Ride~About: Montana’s Unique Pryor Mountains

pryor mountain road

What a great idea. We have the maps and a free day, so leaving at 5am we journey three hours east to the unique Pryor Mountains. They are very different from what we expect in Montana that boasts of the Rocky Mountains in the west and the Great Plains in the east. Rather than the glacier-carved granite of the Rockies, the Pryors are an island of sandstone, shale, and limestone reaching up from the prairie high enough to including spectacular limestone canyons. The Pryors are not only geologically unique, but culturally, ecologically, and meteorologically as well. What an unexpected and beautiful landscape!
